my blog title explained:

It's what I often say to my husband. Especially when he's frustrated that I'm running late for church. There comes a time when certain happenings just shouldn't be a surprise anymore.

What color are brains?

When my 4 yr. old asked me what color brains were, I was a little puzzled. If I didn't know her, I'd probably be concerned. But such are the workings of her brain, so this wasn't really that much of a surprise.

Here is the result of her question:

The way she described it, it's a duck with his brains hanging out and his eyeball popping out.

I didn't see it until Matt asked me, "Did you see what Savannah drew for me?" I hadn't, so he showed me. When he asked her why she drew that picture for him, she told him she wanted to scare him.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get my own explanation, so I asked her as well. She told me, "I wanted to give Daddy nightmares."

Now, Matt and I have thought for a long time that she's going to be a crazy artist like van Gogh. We really hope she doesn't cut off her ear. She once colored a picture that looked almost exactly like The Scream. When we asked her about that one, she said, "That person is surprised."

Who knows what the future will bring... just, PLEASE let her keep her ears!!!

P.S. I don't think brains are pink. This was my actual answer: "Well, I think they might be lots of different colors. No, they're probably gray." And she replied: "No. They're pink." O-kay.

The Chick Flick to Guy Movie Ratio: What's Appropriate and What's Acceptable

Yeah. Uh huh. I went there.

So my husband and I have recently reinstituted our Friday date night. We kind of got out of the habit when we were going out instead of staying in. It used to be that we would rent a movie and get take out and have a date night after the kids went to bed. Then we started going out and it was getting expensive and we found ourselves going out less and less until our date night disappeared.

Since then, we've really come to see how important date night is. Whether you go out or stay in - that time together is essential.

So now we're getting back in the habit. We recently watched a string of chick flicks. Then a guy movie.

It used to be that Matt would say we needed to watch a guy movie for every chick flick. But that's really not an even split. See, a guy movie is worth THREE funny chick flicks. Now, if it's a tear jerker, in any way, then I think it can be equal to a guy movie. Romantic comedies, however, have to be 3 to 1.

Last week we watched P.S. I Love You. I liked it. It was touching. But I thought it was a little hokey because they were married for 12 years. We've been married for 11 years. Sorry - it was a little hokey. I put them at the "4 years of marriage" mark. But what can you expect when the author is a single 21 year old?

So, after watching the incredibly touching P.S. I Love You, I was ready for a guy movie. Here comes the other clarifier: the guy movie has to be a good action flick. If it's hard core, then it's worth a whole lot more chick flicks, as in TWO tear jerkers, or SIX romantic comedies.

For clarification on guy movies: Live Free or Die Hard - regular guy movie. Tropic Thunder - sorry, this one is worth WAY more!

Also, any guy movie over 2 hours is worth more chick flicks. Or old guy movies, like The Godfather series or Clint Eastwood movies or anything by National Lampoon. Sorry. Worth MORE.

The Pink Panther - worth WAY more.

Now, there might be some men that may complain about this appropriate ratio. They may think it's not acceptable. If I might lovingly and respectfully say one thing before you object - Women speak an average of 20,000 words per day, while men speak an average of 7000 words per day.

We're just going with the math. :D

DAYTONA 5220

There was this guy I was dating. He was a Florida Gator. In 1996, Florida played Florida State in the Sugar Bowl. This guy asked me over to his house to watch the game. His roommate had a parrot. I didn't know this when I agreed to go over and watch the game, but the bird hated women.

So we're watching the game and all of a sudden I was being attacked by a parrot. It was one of those horror date stories. Finally, they caged the bird for the rest of the game, but she still kept yelling at me.

Florida won, 52 to 20. And I eventually married the guy.

Then DAYTONA 5220 commented on my blog. I knew who it was, but even after 11 years of marriage, I couldn't figure out where the name DAYTONA 5220 came from until the explanation today. Still not sure about the DAYTONA part, but at least I got the 5220. LOL!

What I can't figure out is why he thought I would be able to figure out 5220 without help. Who the heck remembers a football score from 12 years ago????

I know it's freaky...

It's Jessica's room and it always looks like this. I don't clean it - she does. She's been keeping her room clean since she was 3 years old.

My Aunt Peggy always loved to clean. My cousins called her "the white glove lady". Now whenever my cousins come over to my house and I apologize that it's not all clean, they say, "Tracy, I'm not my mom." I think it's quite possible that Jessica got that "clean gene". I really do believe that the need to clean is in our genetic code. We either have it or we don't.

Mine mutated after having kids.

But Jessica's gene is still pristine and I have to wonder - what would happen if I turned her loose on the house. Would it all look like this?

Hmmm - maybe that's something I need to consider.

HD television has changed marriage forever!

So yesterday was our first BIG game. The final score was 26-3, Florida.

I just have to say, football in HD is a whole new experience. It's actually fun for me to watch it when the picture is so amazing, you can see sweat dripping down the players' faces. So now I actually SEE my husband on Saturdays. We're actually together.

The spread ended up being wider than I thought it would be. Here are some pics I took of the game on our TV. LOL!

Football Season is Here!

So, this Saturday is the Florida/Miami football game. Apparently, this is a HUGE deal. My husband's day is being planned around it. I've been trying to figure out what in my life might be as important as the Florida/Miami game and I must admit - I'm stumped. I also have a feeling that my life is going to revolve around when games are on until the end of college football season. I am also recalling that the mood in our house is going to be deeply effected if the Gators lose. So I will start my cheering and hoping, and maybe even a little praying, that the Gators will crush everyone in their path this season.

My totally and completely uneducated prediction for this Saturday's game - Florida 38, Miami 20.

"If the broom fits, fly it!"

I found this really cute Halloween decoration that has this quote on it. I just had to get it. I don't think I'm being particularly witchy today, but I still thought it suited me well. And then, when I was coming in my front door, I noticed my "Qwicked Ween, I mean, Wicked Queen" house key.

So - the story behind the key: We finally replaced our broken front door and I needed to get duplicate keys made. Since we installed the door ourselves, the lock is particularly tight. (You can't ask for perfection when you're doing the work yourself and you've never done it before. Although, I'm not sure we'd do better if we did it again.)

Anyway, I went to have duplicate keys made at the Postal Annex, or whatever you call it. And they had all these really cute keys. Some of them were really big keys and I thought they'd be easier to turn in the tight lock, so I picked out a few. I got one for my husband - the Grumpy key, and one for myself - the Qwicked Ween. When I gave my husband his key, he didn't think it was funny. In fact, he got all grumpy about it until I said, "Let me show you MY key." Once I did, he was less annoyed with his key.

But since the whole new key experience, I have noted on several occasions how appropriate each of our keys is. And I guess, if the broom fits, fly it!
